The murder in Powai

Hi Everyone

Last Sunday was a dramatic day in my local area, Powai. Not so much because it was raining and I get completely soaked. No, it was actually a famous journalist that was killed just outside D-mart in the middle of the day!
The story has got a lot of attention in the press here in India. J Dey was a senior crime reporter who was shot dead by four unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants. Rumors and theories about who might have shot him have been many. And quite a few of them goes in the direction of the mafia!
The police are said to be questioning the oil mafia don Mohammad Ali (I think he have never been a heavy weight boxing champion) in connection with the murder. This guy is already in the police custody, alleged for the killing of another rival mafia don. Not really they guy you like to be around.
Another suspect in this case is a police officer! Off course I have read stories about corrupt police officers, but that one of them should be responsible for the killing of a journalist seems a bit odd to me. And things got even a bit fishier as this person has been “attached” to another post. Rumors say that he has been “transferred” to get away from the highlight of this case. Can it really be that bad that the police will protect their own colleague just by attaching him into some other position?

The Bombay high court has intervened in the Jyotirmoy Dey murder case and has sought a status report from Mumbai police in the ongoing probe.

The court, today (June 16), admitted two petitions on the issue seeking CBI probe in the case.

The petitioners alleged that the Mumbai police had failed to make any headway in the probe. They also cited possible links of Mumbai police with the underworld as they urged the court to direct the govt to hand over the case to CBI.

Taking note of the petitioners’ plea, the court asked Mumbai police to present the case files. It also directed police to share the investigation files with the petitioners.

The court has posted the case for June 21 and directed the government to ensure that the advocate general appeared in the matter during next hearing.

I will surely update this post as soon as there is more information about the case.

Talk to you soon!
